Hermosa Legends of Surf Weekend

I got the info on what's happening with the Surfer's Walk of Fame induction ceremony this weekend.  First , the inductees: To kick things off on Friday night, there will be a showing of a new surf flick at the Hermosa Playhouse Theatre.  They'll be showing "Fly in the Champagne'" at 6pm, a movie about the rivalry between a couple of future hall of famers, AI and the Slater.  Tickets are $10 at the door, but can also be bought in advance at the community center.  There's also going to be an auction, a raffle and a display of works by local surf artists. Saturday morning starts off with a surf contest at 8am for some high school surf teams, south side.   After that, the induction ceremony starts at 11am.  Finally, Spyder Surf is throwing a big bash, full of swag, music (Pepper) and surf celebrities (Tom Curren). See you there!

Coming Next Month

First, the St. Patty's video: I took a lot of footage (I know, I said that already), and it's taking a while to go through. I'll have it up by this weekend at the latest. Aside from that, March has been a great month so far, with the Boomerang tournament from a couple of weeks ago and Saint Patrick's Day this week. Next month, there's a couple of things on the calendar:
  • Surfer's Walk of Fame Induction (April 4th) - I'm trying to get more info on this one, so stay tuned.  I'll post it as soon as I get it.
  • Pier to Pier Walk (April 25th) - proceeds benefit the Richstone Family Center to help prevent and treat child abuse. Walk begins at Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and ends back at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Participants walk to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back, a distance of 3.4 miles.
If you know of anything else that you want to get the word out on, let me know!

Great Weekend

The warmup weekend for the St. Patrick's day parade weekend turned out great.  I got some cool footage of an event that took place on 14th Street.  Here's a clue, but I should have the video ready this week so you can get the full scoop:

I also ran into Ken Fry, owner of the Ken Fry Gallery.  I couldn't find a website for the gallery, but he is having a display at Il Boccaccio beginning next Saturday and staying up for a month.  Also, he is the founder of the Our Veterans, Our Heroes Foundation, a non-profit designed to "address the needs of our military personnel and their families."  Last, he is the companion of Hermosa Pup Mika, seen below:

More on Mika, Ken, 14th Street and everything else later this week...see you next weekend at the parade!

Best of February

It's already March!  Wow, the year is going by fast, as usual.  Springtime is near, but the warm weather is already here.  Here's a look back at February: Anyway - I'm looking forward to the rest of this year.  Good things will happen!
