Wordle

I ran this blog through Wordle and got the following:

Happenings Wordled
For a Hermosa Beach blog, there seems to be a lot of Laker posts!  It will be interesting to see how this wordles in a month or two. Check out the site if you can.  You can type in your own words, paste some text in or just give it a web address.  It automatically makes a chart like the one above and you can customize the fonts, colors and other stuff.  Let me know if you try it...

Yelp Deleted

In case you were looking for the link to that restaurant review site in the sidebar, I deleted it.  Apparently, there are some allegations that Yelp is "extorting" advertisments from local restaurants in return for positive reviews on their site.
...six people told this newspaper that Yelp sales representatives promised to move or remove negative reviews if their business would advertise. In another six instances, positive reviews disappeared — or negative ones appeared — after owners declined to advertise.
You can read more about it on the East Bay Express, but until this matter is cleared up, I'll not send any readers to a possibly dishonest site.

Thanks for Your Courage

Our state lawmakers passed the budget today and our governor praised them:
I am extremely proud of the members of the Legislature, both Republicans and Democrats, who had the courage to stand up and put the needs of Californians first,
I think it's great that they did it.  I just wonder why they needed "courage" to "put the needs of Californians first."  For some reason, I thought that was their job.  I should have paid more attention in civics class I guess.  I posted a list of the people you should thank for their courage if you see them walking down the street.

Laker Watch (44-10)

The Lakers are Golden State tonight and Happenings Correspondent Annalynn is there to take in the action.  I'm blogging her texts here, liveblog style...
Final score 129-121 to a sold out crows with standing room only. Stay tuned for the final score... MVP back on the line and makes another 2 pts. Warriors are delaying the inevitable.  Called a TO with 47.7 left in the game. Games not over yet but the arena is almost empty.

Our State Owes A Lot of Money

...$42 billion dollars.   The governor told the California lawmakers to pass a balanced budget by Monday, or else he would have to lay off government officials.  Well, they didn't and he did:
California lawmakers worked into early Wednesday but couldn't pass a budget to avoid the possibility of laying off 10,000 more state workers.
(from cnn.com) I wonder if Hermosa Beach has a balanced budget...

Happy Valentine's Weekend!

Hope you all had a good weekend and a great Valentine's day!  Now it's President's Day, and the month is more than halfway through.  There are no more big events in February, but here's a look at next month:
  • Beach Boomerang Championships - right, I have no clue either.  But it's taking place on March 7th and 8th, all day on 14th Street.
  • GI Joe Pier to Pier Walk - in memory of Charlie Saikley on March 7th.  Register at the community center.
  • St. Patrick's Day Parade - the big event.  We'll be out there, filming the fun on March 14th.
Also, come back on Wednesday morning night for a video of the Pier on Valentine's day.

Hermosa Beach Government

Do you know who your government officials are? Aside from the Governator, I wasn't really sure. Here's a current list, so you know who to blame or thank for whatever:
