I headed up north with some friends to check out some volleyball tournament action, hosted by VB Ventures.  I forgot my video cam, of course, but I was able to take some pictures of late round playoff matches.  There were four skill levels, these were from the second best group. Second place went to Krysti and Oakley:

A couple of months ago, there was an attempted kidnapping in Redondo Beach.  A woman was approached by several men in a white van, asked for directions, then tried to snatch her into the van.  The same thing just happened yesterday here in Hermosa Beach, and the authorities think the two incidents are related. Be careful out there! Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call Hermosa Beach police Detective Dorothy Scheid at 310-318-0360 or Redondo Beach police Detective Fabian Saucedo at 310-379-2477, Ext. 2481. Another beautiful weekend in Hermosa Beach, this time with a party on the pier to celebrate the latest inductions onto the Hermosa Beach Surfer's Walk of Fame.

I got the info on what's happening with the Surfer's Walk of Fame induction ceremony this weekend.  First , the inductees:

• Donald Craig - founder of Old Guys Rule
• Robert Hogan - founder of the Catalina Classic Paddleboard Race in 1955.

To kick things off on Friday night, there will be a showing of a new surf flick at the Hermosa Playhouse Theatre.  They'll be showing "Fly in the Champagne'" at 6pm, a movie about the rivalry between a couple of future hall of famers, AI and the Slater.  Tickets are $10 at the door, but can also be bought in advance at the community center.  There's also going to be an auction, a raffle and a display of works by local surf artists. Saturday morning starts off with a surf contest at 8am for some high school surf teams, south side.   After that, the induction ceremony starts at 11am.  Finally, Spyder Surf is throwing a big bash, full of swag, music (Pepper) and surf celebrities (Tom Curren). See you there!

I wanted to get everyone in the video without making it too long, so I tried it this way.  I might end up just posting one super long video, let me know what you think.

First, the St. Patty's video: I took a lot of footage (I know, I said that already), and it's taking a while to go through. I'll have it up by this weekend at the latest. Aside from that, March has been a great month so far, with the Boomerang tournament from a couple of weeks ago and Saint Patrick's Day this week. Next month, there's a couple of things on the calendar:

• Surfer's Walk of Fame Induction (April 4th) - I'm trying to get more info on this one, so stay tuned.  I'll post it as soon as I get it.

• Pier to Pier Walk (April 25th) - proceeds benefit the Richstone Family Center to help prevent and treat child abuse. Walk begins at Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and ends back at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Participants walk to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back, a distance of 3.4 miles.
