Google Fiber - 1 Gig per Second

Google is planning to do an experiment of setting up a few communities with super, super, super fast internet connections.  They're going to provide internet connections at up to 1 gigabyte per second, and they'll be subsidizing much of the infrastructure.

I just signed up for Verizon FIOS a few months ago, and I'm getting something like 5 to 15 megabytes per second.  So this would be something like twenty times faster than FIOS.  It would be even more than that if you have regular cable or DSL.

If you want to get Hermosa Beach considered for this superfast internet, sign up on this link here...

They are looking for youtube videos and other creative submissions, so if you have any ideas to share, please post it on here!

Java Man

My favorite coffee place in Hermosa is Java Man, at the corner of Pier and Manhattan.  Here's a cool little review, from the Easy Reader, that is posted on their wall.  It's a hard to read, so I've transcribed the quote.  I ate a bagel from there today.
This would be a great college-town coffee house, except that due to an oversight nobody ever built an institution of higher learning in the vicinity. The staff at the Easy Reader learned everything we know from hanging out at the beach, but somebody told us that doesn't count. The staff knows and loves the stuff they are serving and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for it. The pastries served here are freshly baked at the Ocean Diner which is a plus - they're wholesome and rumor has it they're even good for you. It adds up to a great place to nurse a coffee or tea for a while and soak up the atmosphere. Places this comfortable are worth celebrating. Java Man 157 Pier Avenue , Hermosa

Missing Parakeet

Hey everyone, this was passed on to me in the hopes of spreading the word about her bird.
I lost my bird (parrot) on Sunday around 6:30pm right in front of the Poopdeck and Mermaid restaurant. I’ve had him for 16 years. He was seen being picked up by a guy with a girl who had just walked onto the strand from the beach and then they headed south on the strand with Maui (my bird). Is there anyway that you can send out a mass email with this info and ask if the recipients would please pass on the info. The couple looked to be in their mid 20’s, he had a short haircut and she had long dark hair. I’ve been crying non stop since Sunday… 16years and in a matter of 5 minutes he’s gone. I’ve attached a picture so if anyone has seen Maui or knows the couple or knows someone who just found a bird, maybe I can get him back. I’m so sorry to be asking so desperately for this favor… I’m just trying to do everything I can. Can you please help me? LL Xoxo, Michelle
Please contact me here if you have a clue (or leave a message on Facebook). I can pass any info on to her.

Independence Day Weekend

More pics and videos to come, later this week...

Dman Pics

Whoops! These pics are from last-last weekend. You can see the surfboard I didn't win. I actually won a different board, but I wasn't there to pick it up so they had to give it to someone else. Oh well, it was for a good cause and it was a good time. Next weekend is fourth of July... [svgallery name="Dman-2009"]
